Maybe I've asked this before, but I can't find it. Anyway....

Sometimes (not every time) when I close Eclipse, it completely forgets the workspace's windowpane settings: Locations, sizes, which ones I want open.

  1. Why does this happen?
  2. How can I avoid it?
  3. What file(s) should I back up in order to restore the lost settings?

OK, I found my original thread. No answers, just others with similar problems. Does anyone have answers?

Are you using Eclipse with only one workspace? Because perspectives are saved in the settings of your workspace.

I have different workspaces for different projects (for instance, web site frontend and supporting backend). Sometimes I have them both open at once, sometimes not. Most of the time the perspectives are reloaded whan I restart Eclipse, sometimes they revert to their factory-default settings.
