Alright so I wanted to work on the stanford free course they are providing, which is an intro into programing using java and eclipse. In order to work on there specific assingments I have to use their specially doctored eclipse. Anyways when I downloaded and unzipped It would come up with an error message and said view log. I am currently running mac 10.7.5 and I have no idea how to fix this. One thing that should be noted is that I did go to the eclipse website and download another version of eclipse for java and it opened right up. Again dont know what the problem is would really like to get this working. Here is the log, althoug I cant tell much from it:

P.S. sorry its so long! Also let me know if there is anything else you need to know.

Ya I downloaded the one for macintosh users (mac) and I believe that the software itself is 32bit. I know my machine is 64bit, as my computer has a 64bit processor and the eclipse I downloaded from the eclipse website was 64bit and it works just fine. I dont have any problems downloading it or unzipping it but as soon as I click on the icon it starts to open up, then pops up with a message: "An error has occured see log file...". This makes me wonder if it cant find the startup file? Not really sure, java and eclipse is all new to me. After having the problem I updated the JRD kit to 1.7 or whatever the newest one is. Not sure about the JRE, but like I said the one I downloaded directly from eclipse worked immediately, making me think stanford doesnt have its crap together (configured correctly). Again if there is something you need from me, just tell me how to get it and I will try to reply with what I find. Thanks for the quick response.

P.S. here is the link to the stanford website: "(h)ttp://see.stanford.edu/see/materials/icspmcs106a/software(.)aspx" (remove the () around the dot and h)

From this it looks like it's a 64 bit version (or wants to be one)

BootLoader constants: OS=macosx, ARCH=x86_64, WS=carbon, NL=en_US

It might be a 32 bit version and then needs a 32 bit VM.

The name of the zip generally includes the architecture (whether it's 32
or 64 bit). You need to make sure the VM you use matches. You can use
command line arguments to direct it which VM to use

Try the Juno SR2 Cocoa 64-bit download instead. If the log is correct, your build is over 6 years old.

Ya my build is six years old but like I said it is specifically configured by the class and has stuff in there that I need. BTW I kinda lost on how to change the VM or where the VM is...I read the link you gave me but honestly that just made it more confusing. Huh, im sorry for being so dense, any more comments are appreciated

I'm not a Macintosh guy, but you might be able to launch a shell window
and type:

$ which java

The answer may put you on to where to begin looking. The following link
contains Macintosh OS-specific information that may be useful:

Does the mention of a new problem mean the old one was solved? My suggestion of using a newer build was because of the changes that have happened with Java and OSX in that time; it may be that a build that old will simply not work correctly on a modern system.

You may be right in saying that it just may not work. I really appreciate the help you guys have given me but everything I have tried just does not work. So I think I will probably talk to stanford and see if they have any idea and if they dont will probably move on to something else. The first photo is the "old" problem and the second photo is the "new" photo. Depending on how I configure the -vm message to look I can get either one. Like I said earlier I do have a running version of eclipse on my machine (2013 version) but I was trying to get this to work because of stanford. However, if it doesnt work, then it doesnt work and again I really appreciate the time you guys put in to help. Thanks

BTW I was able to find my java file here /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_21.jdk/Contents/Home/bin and then adding a /java at the end.

Alright guys Im supper excited to tell you that while i was not able to get the first one working, I was able to find a sister website to the stanford programming course (http://www.stanford.edu/class/cs106a/software.html) which had an updated version of eclipse and I even got karel running almost immediately. I really appreciate the support you guys have given me and I have learned alot just from trying to fix that other outdated eclipse. I would also like to say that I believe you were right Mr. Dahyabhai in saying that the age is what stopped it from running. As the 2011 version i got started right up. Also im wondering if in order to get the other one working I would have had to be using jdk 1.5? Back in 2006 I doubt they would have had 1.6 jdk right? Anyways, again appreciate all the support and time you guys put in and I will start my journey using eclipse!
