Hi all,

I am trying to get my plugins (AJDT) ready for Eclipse 3.5M5. I am able to
build them against 3.5M5, but now when I try to install them into a fresh
3.5M5, I get the following p2 error and cannot install:

Cannot find a solution satisfying the following requirements
org.eclipse.equinox.preferences [3.2.300.v20090112-1800].

The update site is here:
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/ajdt/35/dev/update

None of my plugins depend on org.eclipse.equinox.preferences, so I am not
really sure why I am getting this error. And not sure a way around it.
Does anyone have any ideas?

thanks,

I'm just installing 3.4.2 and finding similar problems with WTP.

That feature developers are struggling shows that P2 needs some much
better feedback. It's pretty awful trying to install my favoured set of
features, only to find that I'm having to backtrack a huge amount.

This really needs sorting for 3.5. P2's made some great advances, but
the end user shouldn't be stuck with poor user experience... especially
compared to the ease of finding and installing plugins for IntelliJ IDEA.

This is the topic of bug 200380 (http://bugs.eclipse.org/200380). We
have released something for that for next week I build but you will have
to turn it on manually (-Dp2.new.explanation=true) because we still have
performance issues with this new support.

I never had the chance to see it. Could you please tell more? Is it in
the UI, in the mechanism, etc?

Thanks. Very much looking forward to trying this. I know you are working
hard on this, but to be honest, my experiences with p2 so far have left a
bad taste in my mouth. It does seem that p2 has made some big leaps forward
already in 3.5.

Just tried out the new explanation mechanism and found it very useful. I
did not see any noticeable slowdown and I was able to diagnose my original
problem quickly. This goes a long way to making p2 better.

Thank you.
