I'm using BIRT 3.7.2 and have been facing an error with Report Viewer on designer. I get the below error when the report is viewed by clicking the button for "View report in Web Viewer" on the designer.

A Runtime Error has occurred.Do you wish to Debug?
Line: 84
Error: Object expected

I could fix the issue in runtime birt webapp deployed in tomcat by setting the parameter "BIRT_VIEWER_PRINT_SERVERSIDE" OFF in web.xml as per the solution in the below topic.
http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/m/364967/

Can someone suggest how to fix this issue on the designer? Without Report viewer on designer, it is very tedious to develop and test the changes for reports by deploying tomcat everytime.

Thank you very much.

Rama,

Select window->preferences->Report Design->Preview. Try checking the
Always use external browsers checkbox. You can click on the Web Browser
link to set which external browser is used.

Hi Jason, I'm facing the same issue even after selecting the external browser.

Report Viewer was working fine initially on both designer and on browser when deployed in tomcat, not sure what caused this issue later. But I could have a workaround in runtime version by setting BIRT_VIEWER_PRINT_SERVERSIDE parameter OFF in web.xml. Can we have a similar fix in designer version also?

What OS are you running BIRT on? Have you tried a running eclipse with
the -clean option?
