Internet Connection Freezes Eclipse [message #887067] |

Version: Indigo (re-downloaded/installed today, June 15)
OS: Windows XP
When I start up Eclipse and attempt to do anything that connects to the internet (check for updates, Market place, download new server connectors, etc) Eclipse freezes. According to Windows Task Manager there is no activity at all.
There are several related facts:
- Firefox/IE work fine even when Eclipse is frozen, so it is not the network.
- The Network proxy in Eclipse is set to Native. I also tried Direct with the same result.
- This is a dual-boot machine and the same version of Eclipse on linux is fine.
- After Eclipse freezes I have to kill it, then I cannot re-start it until after rebooting the OS.
- I used to be able to connect with no problem.
The one obvious thing that has changed between "used to work" and now is that I replaced my (simple) cable modem with a full network router. The setup of the router might have something to do with this, but I don't know what settings might be causing the problem.
Can you think of something I can look at?
Does Eclipse use anything other than standard http for connecting?
What settings in a network router might affect the ability to get to the internet?
This is preventing cross-browser testing, so any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Glenn

I suggest you to start JConsole or VisualVM and try to investigate
Eclipse instance to see what happens wrong.
Maybe some threads are blocked by I/O. My personal experience is that
Eclipse P2 sites are, let me to say, "dead-slow" (modem speed).

Thanks for your suggestions. As far as I can tell my settings are the same in Eclipse as in IE (no proxy) so I'm at a loss for what to do to fix this.
Fortunately I've managed to by-pass the problem by copying the appropriate plugin jars from my Linux system onto my Windows Eclipse setup so I can proceed with working.
Thanks for the help
