Missing Constraint: Require-Bundle... for org.eclipse.tptp.platform.profile.server.wst [message #109782] Wed, 22 August 2007 13:02 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
TPTP has caused me more problems than anything else in upgrading to Eclipse
3.3.

The latest problem is that when using the Validate button on the Plug-ins
tab for the runtime-workspace, I get the following error on
org.eclipse.tptp.platform.server.wst:

Missing Constraint: Require-Bundle: org.eclipse.jst.server.core;
bundle-version="[1.0.0,2.0.0)"

There is then an entry in the Error Log in the Runtime Workbench to the same
effect. This happens every time I start it.

I have Eclipse 3.3 and have the last updates for TPTP via "Search for
updates of the currently installed features". I have got all of TPTP via
Europa initially and via this means after.

I would think TPTP should have checked for such requirements when installing
the updates. It is somewhat inconvenient to try to find the required
plug-ins manually. It is more easily fixed by just unchecking
org.eclipse.tptp.platform.server.wst as a plug-in on the mentioned tab.

Thanks,

-Ken

Hi Ken,

The jar that is missing is part of the WTP dependency. There are known
issues with Update Manager not obtaining some bundles during install. I
would suggest getting the dependecies using the links from our website
(http://www.eclipse.org/tptp/home/downloads/) and putting them in your
workbench. In my replication of the problem, I downloaded DTP, EMF, GEF
and WTP to fix the missing constraint error. You may want to also install
BIRT. Please follow up with your outcome.

Joel,

Thanks for your reply. I agree that the Update Manager has problems. =
It has been getting better with each version, however. it is one of the =
real advantages of using Eclipse. It does work OK most of the time, and =
my experience is that it is usually owing to a bad configuration of the =
update site when it doesn't.

In any event, I don't want to manage Eclipse plug-ins manually. I =
appologize if that seems uncooperative, but I don't have the time to do =
that. I will uninstall TPTP first. That would be unfortunate as I have =
found it to be an impressive tool. But it is not something I use on a =
daily basis.

I also don't want to install WTP if I can avoid it. I have found it to =
be buggy and it caused me far more problems with 3.2 than TPTP has with =
3.3. I do need to use it, but until I have the time to babysit it more =
thoroughly, I would rather not have it installed. It like, TPTP, is =
interfering with the time I have to spend on things that I do have to do =
on a daily basis.

I also don't want to install everything in sight that might find the =
missing plug-in. That will just cause more problems. I have found KISS =
to be an excellent guiding principle. (I guess that would mean =
uninstalling TPTP ;-)

When providing features on an update site, the developer has the =
obligation to specify the correct dependencies in the feratures. For =
something as complicated as TPTP that may not be easy, but the =
responsibly should be on the developer to do that. I believe that if =
the feature dependencies are specified correctly, then there should be =
no "missing constraints" in the plug-ins. I think the problem should be =
corrected on the update-site end.

I am not currently having trouble with other projects since upgrading to =
3.3.

Thanks again,.

-Ken
