| Trouble with Java on Indigo and Fedora 16 [message #821757] |

I have recently built a Fedora 16 platform with the goal of it being my primary programming environment. I added eclipse from add/remove software, and Indigo was installed. I went through the "Hello World" tutorial, but the add class dialog box would not 'Finish'. That is, no matter what I put in the fields, the finish button would on add a class. I could only cancle. I have Helios on three other platforms and the add class works just fine.
I decided to remove Eclipse (all traces) and re-add it. I added almost everything that had an Eclipse name associated with it. However, now I can't even get a Java project to show in the project wizard, much less get to the place where a could add a Java Class. The Perspective shows as <Java>. The project wizard offers me 17 different options, but none of them are Java.
If anyone has seen this, I could sure use a little direction.
For now I am heading back to Helios on Window 7 or Fedora 14

Well - the Install software -> markeplace, doesn't exist on the Indigo from Eclipse.org (clasic download). I can put the link to marketplace on the list, but it doesn't get me anything. In my case, I need a Maven environment which I have spent a good deal of non-billable time with no results. I can do an 'add' from Fedora, but that doesn't get me anything either. I can't even add C++ . Eclipse refuses, and Fedora is happy to do it, but it doesn't really happen.
My Windows install of Helios, runs marketplace just fine and installs Maven, C++, etc.
I also run Helios on Fedora 14 with better results ( I don't have Maven yet ). For now, time is running out. I have to make something work soon or I lose the job.

Yeah, you should have a plan B because the weekends can get a little
dead around here.
As for adding C++, I would suggest that since you seem to be struggling
with Help -> Install New Software, you try just downloading Eclipse IDE
for C/C++ Developers and use it separately from the one with which you
do Java.
While many are from the camp of dumping everything into one Eclipse, I'm
from the camp of choose the Eclipse that does primarily what I want to
do, then add more to it. Or even just use separate Eclipse installations.
Also, Helios is a crackerjack IDE. It rocks. I wouldn't move to Indigo
if I were in a hurry just for Indigo's sake. Sharpen the saw later when
you have more time.
As for Maven, that can get difficult because it's not Eclipse and your
Maven support will come from a separate developer community--usually.
What David and I have really told you that's helpful is not to get
Eclipse from your Linux or other OS distros, but always directly from
eclipse.org.
As you're mixing C/C++ and Maven into your questions, you'll be relying
on a smaller crowd for advice here and you may even want to ask in the
Eclipse CDT forum and/or in a Maven (not Eclipse) forum.

I didn't mean to be saying that I was mixing, as much as, I couldn't even get a pretty standard plug-in to install. Neither Indigo or Fedora would affect a working C++.
I tend to agree with you on the multi-install of Eclipse.
