Does the document viewer use server-side or client-side rendering? [message #805881] Fri, 24 February 2012 03:58 Go to next message

When we view a document using the IPP's document viewer, do we actually download the document on the local client/browser? Or is it actually being viewed from the server and the document resides on the app server only?

Our concern is the client has a limited amount of bandwith which means that for every view of the document, the same document gets streamed back to their local desktops thus eating up precious bandwith just for viewing. Do you have an alternative for this?

The built-in TIFF and PDF viewers support server-side rendering. For such documents each page is encoded as a PNG and only transmitted to the client when that page is navigated to. To support the same for other document types we would need a built-in viewer for those document types.
