Hi all,

I have problems connecting to updates repositories from eclipse (Linux Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit, Eclipse 3.7.1, Java 1.6.0).

Trying to connect to http:/ /download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo gives this log:

Connection reset

Connecting to http:/ /download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/3.7, 3.6, etc. gives similar results. (The "space" in links is on purpose, I can't post here links)
But connection to projects repositories like Mylin or ADT works fine.

I tried several solutions, none soleved my problem:
- Switched to official Sun JDK (1.6.0_25)
- Downloaded eclipse instead of using Ubuntu repository
- Defined in ini file "-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true" flag
- deleted cache folder
- Do not use proxy
- It's not a transport/firewall/antivirus problem

From what I see in "wireshark", eclipse tries to retrieve "content.xml" from the update repositories, this file isn't there and it gives up. For some strange reason it does not try to download the right file - compositeContent.jar.
I found a similar bug occurred only on 64 bit systems, but it was almost a year ago and it appears fixed.

I have the same problems like Shaul. I can't connect to update repositories from eclipse (Windows 7 32 Bit, Eclipse Indigo, Java 1.7.2) since last Week.

Starting Eclipse with -vmargs -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true works for me.

I'm having a similar problem as Shaul - "Unable to connect to repository....", except the error message ends "Connection refused" instead of reset....

I've downloaded Eclipse 4.1.1, now trying to do Help > Install New Software, and get that error for all the locations.

Note - this is following instructions that have worked fine in the past, latest time being in early December 2011.

I'm on Linux. I do have a proxy set up (and that should be working; our IT staff isn't around today to verify that, but I don't know of any reason why it should not be working Smile

).

After a long investigation it do appears to be some very strange transport (more accurate to say IT security of our LAN) problem, that appears only on Linux 64bit. Fixed.

Thanks, Shaul. I'm using 32-bit so that wouldn't apply....

Also, I should add that I've read and tried everything in this thread so far, with no success.

UPDATE: Problem solved here as well. It was also a setup issue on my end, specifically needed to use Port 80. (Not sure how 25 got in the mix.... doh!)

Starting Eclipse with -vmargs -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true works for me too, nevertheless this problem happen for me whereae i did not modify anything in Eclipse options.Thanks a lot for the solution.
