Hi,
I would like to add a bit more information to the HOWTO "How can I tune
the XML output of ATL?" at
http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/ATL_Howtos#How_can_I_tune_ the_XML_output_of_ATL.3F

The article should note that you must do the following:
1) Install AM3 into your eclipse environment
2) Restart eclipse
3) Change to the new AM3 perspective
4) Right click on the model instance to be extracted into XML

This is a very graceful feature of ATL, but getting it to work initially
if a bit hit and miss as the HOWTO leaves the above steps out.

Cheers,
Ronan

Hi,

Your suggestion sounds good to me.
Please go ahead with these changes.

However, please note that your small tutorial focuses on manual use of
the XML extractor. You might want to leave some place to talk about
automating this process by using ant tasks.

Do not hesitate to structure the HOWTOs in several sections like:
- Description
Description of the problem to solve.
- Solution
- Overview
- Small tutorial/Step-by-step
(i.e., what you are suggesting here)
- Examples
- Related threads
Links to related posts in the newsgroup archive
( http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.modeling.m2m/m aillist.html).

The
http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/ATL_Howtos#How_do_I_launch _transformations_programmatically.3F
HOWTO is already structured almost like this. Its solution section is
however not detailed in overview & tutorial yet.

Thanks,

Frédéric Jouault

Hi Ronan,

Nice to hear from you and many thanks for your suggestion.

Just a very small point of detail.
On this newsgroup, we try to stick to the convention of
prefixing all the questions, answer and comments
by the component to which they are related.

The reason for this is that the EMO (Eclipse Management Organization)
is VERY reluctant to open additional newsgroups for some technical reason.
There was a long discussion about this that concluded on the strong
necessity
to have multi component newsgroups:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=165777

Since the M2M project is intended, by creation, to hold
several components, it is necessary to stick to this policy.
This is particularly important to allow future search of archives.

The recommended practices is to prefix the subject line of all transactions
related to ATL by the explicit [ATL] tag.

Best regards and thanks again for your interesting contribution.

Jean

Hi Jean/Frédéric,
I have updated the wiki as suggested. As requested I will add some details
on how to automate the process when I have tried this out myself,
hopefully in the next week or two. I think if the wiki can be expanded
from the knowledge contained in the new/old forum it would be an excellent
resource along with the ATL User Manual.

Apologies for the lack of tagging in the subject Jean, I hadn't realised.
It definitely makes sense from a search point of view.

Cheers,
Ronan
