Eclipse Voice Tools Development Call Minutes
August 18, 2005, 11am EST
Attendees:
Joe Oh, Audium
Delroy Cole, IBM
Brent D. Metz, IBM
Lenora Wright, IBM
John Buttitto, SandCherry
Jeff Pedigo, SandCherry
Michael Greenawalt, TellMe
Bill Schultz, Unisys
Andrew Wahbe, VoiceGenie
The call began with a summary of the week's development. A article appeared
on the developerWorks developer web site
explaining how to contribute to the project. Additionally the build process
was restored and a build was uploaded to
the VTP site.
A discussion of contribution activities followed. One caller stated his
company's interest but lack of resources at
the present time to contribute. Another stated they would be able to
contribute resources but not
eclipse code directly to the open source space. A discussion of a vendor's
existing tooling infrastructure followed.
The execution APIs were discussed at length, starting with a statement that
the Eclipse Debug APIs appear to provide
a clear mechanism for extension into the function sets that interest the
VTP. It was proposed that events specific
to voice browsers be defined along with an interface into a generic browser
object to send data bidirectionally.
A discussion followed of how to involve additional standards such as SIP and
MRCP followed. There was consensus that
using MRCP and SIP as required external links in the tooling would be ideal
but the concern was raised that this
would potentially hinder adoption among users who do not use these protocols
such as embedded engines. It was
proposed that APIs be defined with MRCP and SIP in mind as the obvious users
of the APIs but without precluding
other uses. It was stated that there is a need for MRCP and SIP code to
complete the loop for exercising such APIs.
An inquiry was made regarding the approximate feature set and dates for a
release. After a brief summary it was
suggested that the plans be formalized into the proper Eclipse formats and
distributed. This was taken as a work item
for the next week.
