Hi all,
We (Red Hat/JBoss) are proposing the creation of a BPMN 2.0-compliant graphical editor project as a sub-project of STP. We currently have a working prototype based on graphiti and the MDT BPMN2 meta model which will comprise the initial code contribution.
Until the proposal has been reviewed by the Eclipse Foundation, I'd like to use this news group to solicit feedback and involve interested parties in a discussion of this project.
If anyone's interested, the code is currently being hosted at github - reply to this post for details if you can't find it.
Regards,
Bob Brodt

Bob, we are very interested in this proposal as with Stardust (http://eclipse.org/proposals/soa.stardust/) we are having submitted a proposal for a complete BPM suite
which also contains a BPMN editor with e.g. simulation and debugging capabilities but also a runtime environment and end user portal with workflow, system integration
and document management. monitoring and reporting.
As there is overlap regarding the modeler between your proposal and Stardust, we think we should combine our efforts and build - and use - the "best BPMN modeler in the universe" together.
Starting with a clean codebase and the BPMN 2.0 metamodel is surely an excellent approach. However we have learned working with and on these things for a long time, that real world BPM modeling
needs a lot more than just a BPMN editor.
To leverage this expertise best for this project, we could - and are happy to - help with
* embedding the results of this project in Stardust,
* making sure that the necessary extension points for enhancements (e.g. for simulation, debugging, concurrent modelling, versioning, model cross references etc.) exist,
* testing end-to-end modeling and deployment and
* thoughts and code on certain modeling features we may have done pretty OK (e.g. swimlanes).
I suggest to do some webcasts on te current status of both projects to everybody who is interested and brainstorm on options after.

Bob,
this is exactly where we need to be:
A great editor with general BPMN functionality, the ability to transparently overlay certain, possibly engine specific aspects and export thos properly during model deployxment.
We may even be able to reuse some of these overlays (e.g. cost and controlling aspects) acorss engines.
