I'm trying to gather meta information from existing Java project. Someone at Stackoverflow.com suggested me to use MoDisco. I downloaded Eclipse (never used it before) and installed MoDisco. What is next?

I failed to find any instructions or screenshots. Where to click, what to do? Please, give a link or some hint. Thanks!

Hi Yegor,

Indeed you are ready to gather informations from Java Project!

MoDisco comes with a documentation available here:
http://wiki.eclipse.org/MoDisco/

Assuming you just install the current MoDisco version, you'll find more specific informations here :
http://wiki.eclipse.org/MoDisco/Components/v0.8

MoDisco project comes with some discoverers, which are the tools you've been told to try.
The java documentation is published here:
http://wiki.eclipse.org/MoDisco/Components/Java/Documentatio n/0.8#Java_Discoverer

Don't hesitate if you have any other question.

Best regards,
Nicolas

Nicolas, I've seen these links, but they don't help at all. Could you please let me know what exactly shall I do in Eclipse in order to start working with MoDisco? Where to click? E

Excuse me for this simple question, but it looks like the documentation is NOT very helpful for newcomers.

In the meantime I installed and tried nWire for Java (http://www.nwiresoftware.com/products/nwire-java), which is very easy to start and very intuitive. Right after I installed it there is an additional button in the command bar of Eclipse. Click there and you're ready to go.

Is it possible to achieve the same with MoDisco?

Hi Yegor,

As indicated on the wiki for Java discoverer ( http://wiki.eclipse.org/MoDisco/Components/Java/Documentatio n/0.8#Java_Discoverer) , you just have to perform a right click on your java project which contains the source code you want to retrieve informations from, then goes into the MoDisco menu and click on the "Discover Java model from Java project".

You will then be prompt for some discovery options, click finish and you will get a Java model.

Please let us know if you do not see the new "MoDisco" menu which comes with MoDisco installation in Eclipse.

Regards,
Nicolas
