tomcat 5.5 is not listed in the new server wizard. [message #635543]

I'am using EclipseEuropa Version: 3.3.2. Also i installed Apache Tomcat/5.5.26 in C://Program Files/ApacheSoftwareFoundations/Tomcat5.5

But when i try to create a new server configuration for tomcat server, no tomcat servers are listed in the wizard.

Its showing only "HTTP Server".

whats wrong with my configuration/installation.

Please help me out.

Is there any reason you would want to use a 3+ year old tool when there
has been steady improvement and 3 more versions since that one?

Nevertheless, I wrote a tutorial back then on writing servlets and JSPs;
Europa covered this version of Tomcat for me (see
http://www.windofkeltia.com/j2ee/tut-images/e-server-prefs-n ew.jpg).

Hello Mr.Russell,

No specific reason to use this older reason.

In that given jpg, its showing many Apache tomcat versions. but in my case, its not showing any versions. Its like empty.

what should i do? From that given link, i didnt get infor to resolve this issue.

Right. That's because I don't know what must be done. Someone else may
come along. I think, however, that if you're just getting started,
you'll get more interest if you're using the current tools rather than
such ancient ones. And, I'll bet it will work.

I believe this implies the set of plug-ins your Eclipse is actually
running is "incomplete", likely due to missing dependencies. I believe
a simple way to cause this is to run with Java 1.4. That will silently
disable a lot of stuff that depends on Java 1.5.

If this is not the case, the primary way I obtain clues as to what's
missing is to add "-debug" and "-clean" to the eclipse.ini. Add them as
separate lines above the -vmargs line. Then start Eclipse and open the
Error Log view. You should see what is not being resolved (i.e. is not
"running) due to missing dependencies. This may help reveal what needs
to be installed to get the missing portion of WTP running.

As far as I remember, in previous versions there had been two different
downloads of the "Web Tools Platform" plugin: one for "web developers",
the other for "JavaEE developers". And the "web developers" plugin did
not contain the Tomcat servers, only a "HTTP server".
For your eclipse version this should be here:
http://archive.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/R2.0/R-2 .0.3-20080710044639/

Maybe you picked the wrong one ("Web Standard Tools" instead of "Web
Tools Platform Complete")?

It seems i would have missed as you explained.

I'm not sure about it.

Meantime, i've downloaded the latest versions of Helios and Galileo versions of Eclipse. But i face different problems like "Error in Initializing Java Tools, some plugins".

But this point (what you explained) should be checked.

Let me check and come back to you.

Hi,

about the "Error in Initializing Java Tools": does it happen always or
only sometimes?
If it happens always, there is something wrong with either your eclipse
installation, or with your workspace.
Try to:
-download only the "Eclipse IDE for JavaEE Devleopers", without any
plugins:
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-ide-java-e e-developers/heliossr1
-when starting it, let it point to a new workspace, if you use an
existing one.

I get the "Java Tools" error occasionally when starting Eclipse, but
here it works on next try.
