I haven't used eclipse pde on this computer in a few months, so im not positive when it stopped working, however i did just upgrade to ubuntu 10.10 so it could have occurred there.
in the new project menu, php is not an option, java is.. but php is not. any project that was php now all php files just open as text files would.
open perspective->PHP doesn't do anything anymore...at all
it says at the top of the window <PHP> - Eclipse SDK ... and i have tried uninstalling with apt-get remove eclipse-* and purged all configs as well. autoremoved and purged all related packages that i no longer need, then re-installed with apt-get install eclipse-pde allowing it to install any package it needs...
cant figure out whats wrong with it, cant really find anything on google.
any help would be appreciated this has put my project to a standstill...well... this and my better computer giving up on me.

Personally I'm always skeptical about the use of the Ubuntu re-packaged
Eclipse platform and plugins. Eclipse has its own update/package
manager, so I would suggest you to download one of the Eclipse
distribution directly from www.eclipse.org and start from there. To add
new feature use the embedded Help | Install new software feature,
instead of apt.
Moreover, make sure you're using a Sun JRE to run Eclipse, because gcj
(bundled with Ubuntu by default) does not work well with Eclipse.
HTH.
Mauro.
