Hi,

just got aware of the irc client within ecf.

Even though I'm able to log into

#papernapkin@irc.freenode.net

I don't seem to be able to log into:
##wicket@irc.freenode.net

For some reason it seems to be importent to have the two # in front of the
group name.
See: http://incubator.apache.org/wicket/community.html#Community- irc

Any hints?

Martin

Hi Martin,

ECF currently uses URL syntax for connecting to IRC channels, and URL
syntax uses '#' as a delimiter (between path and fragment)...so this
makes it problematic to have two '#' characters in the channel name for
the connnect dialog.

Note that the syntax for ECF IRC is:

<username>@<host>[/<channel>[,channel]]

So it's not the group name prior to the '@irc.freenode.net', but rather
your desired login name. For your first URL this would be:

martin@irc.freenode.net/#papernapkin (or whatever your desired
username is other than 'martin')

OR

martin@irc.freenode.net/papernapkin

But unfortunately this will not currently work:

martin@irc.freenode.net/##wicket

Because of the URL syntax issue.

A workaround, however, is to simply log into

martin@irc.freenode.net/

And once you are logged in you can type:

/join ##wicket

And you will join the ##wicket channel.

I've filed the following bug to address the need to support channel
names of the form '##name' in the connect dialog:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=195690

Martin
