"Compare with Previous State" extremely slow [message #501716] Thu, 03 December 2009 10:16 Go to next message

When right clicking a a revision in the History view and selecting "Compare with Previous State" , the operation is extremely slow.
It takes from 30 to 40 seconds to compare a 20 kB big text file.

The same operation on same data with TortoiseSVN on same PC takes 5-10 seconds.

Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers.

Hello David,

Is performance slow with SVNKit and JavaHL, or only with one of connectors
and with what protocol do you work, e.g. http, svn, svn+ ssh etc.? What
connectors types, versions do you use?

JavaHL.
I will try SVNKit next.
HTTPS

JavaHL 1.6.0 Win32 Binaries (Optional) 2.2.1.I20091009-1900 org.polarion.eclipse.team.svn.connector.javahl16.win32.featu re.group
Native JavaHL 1.6 Implementation (Optional) 2.2.1.I20091009-1900 org.polarion.eclipse.team.svn.connector.javahl16.feature.gro up
Subversive SVN Connectors 2.2.1.I20091009-1900 org.polarion.eclipse.team.svn.connector.feature.group

In the preferences / Team / SVN / SVN Connector it says:
Native JavaHL 1.6.5 r38866 (for SVN 1.6.5, win32 platform only)(svn:1.6.5(r38866) jni:0.9.0)

Now I tried
SVNKit 1.3.0 Implementation (Optional) 2.2.1.I20091009-1900 org.polarion.eclipse.team.svn.connector.svnkit16.feature.gro up

It is faster than JavaHL by factor 2.
Still slower than TortoiseSVN (5 versus 8 seconds on a test file)

Hello David,

I don't know how TSVN implemented Compare action, but I think they may also
use different SVN library than we. Also as you can see performance with
JavaHL and SVNKit signifacantly varies, so this problem is specific to SVN
library. I think we can do nothing here.
