Extremely slow plug-in startup in 3.4 - 3.6M2 but not 3.3.2 [message #489782]

initialize some code and will be ready to go in about 3-5 secs, however
in eclipse 3.4 - 3.6M2, the exact same plug-in can take 60-90 secs to
complete.

What runtime changes could likely account for this?
