To get Proxies to work with Galileo, I have had to put my proxy
credentials in PLAIN TEXT in eclipse.ini. This is appalling security.
To make matters worse, when I start Eclipse, my proxy password is printed
in the "Error Log" window.

I don't understand why Open Source seems to have a blind spot when it
comes to proxy credentials. Many Linux distributions want you to put your
proxy credentials in an environment variable. Nearly all require you to
store your proxy credentials in plain text.

PROXY CREDENTIALS DESERVE THE SAME LEVEL OF SECURITY AS ANY OTHER
CREDENTIALS!!!!
