Hi,
I heard a rumour that improved JIRA support might be in the pipeline? Is
there any news on that?

Dave, those are not really rumors. Mik Kersten talked about it out
loud on several occasions. Though connector is still reside on the
"extras" update site. See http://www.eclipse.org/mylyn/downloads/
Anyways, JIRA connector is always been improved incrementally and
these improvements available in the weekly builds if you don't want to
wait for the big releases. See New & Noteworthy at
http://www.eclipse.org/mylyn/new/#jira
To help prioritize issues, you can also watch, comment and vote on
open issues for JIRA connector using this Bugzilla query
