I'm trying to connect to a CVS repository using the 'ext' method, using
/usr/athena/bin/rsh as the external program, but Eclipse fails to
connect, popping up a dialog box saying "Unknown response received from
cvs server:". No more info is given. On Eclipse's stdout/stderr, the
following is printed:
Valid-responses ok error M E Checked-in Valid-requests Template
Set-sticky MT Clear-static-directory Module-expansion
Set-static-directory Clear-sticky New-entry Merged Removed Updated
Remove-entry Update-existing Copy-file Created Notified Mod-time
valid-requests
I've tried searching in the newsgroups, but without much luck. The
webinterface to newsgroups would be *much* more usable if for example
Google could index it.
Anyway, I've found some pointers to bugzilla-entries
(http://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=11633,
http://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=21180), but I can't really
determine if they are relevant here, or if they provide a solution for me.
Another solution would be if Eclipse could support the 'kserver' method.
I'll stick to pcl-cvs in Emacs until I can get this working, but it
would be great to be able to use cvs from inside Eclipse.
Any help would be appreciated.

Jesper,
I suspect that the rsh client you are using is inserting whitespace
characters that are not part of the CVS protocol. You may want to log a
bug since it should be possible to handle this.
By the way, most users configure their local CVS servers to support
pserver and connect to it that way. If your using Cygwin, this bug
explains how you can setup a local connection
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=6892).
