HELP, import local history [message #271047] Mon, 25 May 2009 08:16 Go to next message

I have made a new installment of eclipse and would like to transfer the
history but when I copy the .history folder's contents, eclipse will not
"read" it. It gives a popup which states there is no history. So what am
I missing or can't this be done?

I found out that I also needed the .projects folder in
\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources
as that holds the maps for the history files..

Is there a particular reason you don't just point the new Eclipse at
your existing workspace? That is usually the simplest path during an
upgrade of Eclipse.

Well yes I deleted the old workspace to get a clean slate and also
because I restructured the folder tree for both eclipse and the
workspace, but you are right for those times when only eclipse is updated.

I have put both eclipse and the workspace into a versioned folder tree
e.g. ..\eclipse\332\<eclipse files or
...\workspace\eclipse\332\<workspace files> to better facilitate trying
new versions of eclipse and to only have one workspace for many IDEs or
other dev tools which use a workspace.
