Eclipse Error [message #270211] Fri, 10 April 2009 04:52 Go to next message

I had been using Eclipse SDK 3.0.1 on win98 after installing j2sdk
1.4.2_19 for nearly 2 months and I had practised a number of codes.
Suddenly, one day it started giving the following error
" Could not find the main file. The system will close"

2. Thinking, perhaps, that the Eclipse file has gone corrupt, I deleted it
and copy/pasted again from the CD. Thereafter when I tried to open it, it
gives out the following error and does not open.
"An error has occurred. See the log file i:\02( or l:\02 or j:\ 02 I
cannot make out")

3. A very interesting phenomenon is that WHEN I OPEN IT FROM CD ROM, IT
WORKS FINE AND I CAN RUN ANY CODE.

4. A befuddling situation. Can someone help ??

5. In the meantime, I have started using JCreator.

1. Any particular reason you wish to use Eclipse 3.0.1 instead of latest 3.4.2?

2. Looks like a path issue.

3. If it works from CD, it SHOULD work from HDD too. Make sure the JDK you installed is marked system jvm. If I recall correctly its JDK_ROOT environment variable. Need to google to be sure.

4. Indead.

5. Wish you luck!!

I prefer working on win98(even though I am on dual booting system
alongwith winXP) as long as possible. I don,t think 3.4.1 works on win98.

3. "Make sure the JDK you installed is marked system jvm." How do we do
this ??

Sounds like perhaps your hard disk is dying, or you have a virus.
