automatically select the right mirror? [message #254531] Tue, 22 April 2008 06:24 Go to next message

Hi there,

I have to install and update a lot of stuff of eclipse. In the install
and update dialogs you can select "automatically selct mirrors" feature.
This seems to select a mirror randomly, usually a mirror far away from
me with bad performance.
Can I somehow tell eclipse to always select the same mirror if it is
available? (e.g. some mirror in germany)

Best regards,
Hauke

I dunno, but its certainly not by geographical location, I also usually get the
farthest mirrors..

AFAIK it tries to pick a mirror that's close. For me it tends to
consistently pick University of Waterloo (which is a reasonably good
pick). However, the selection algorithm is only as good as the data it
uses and it, unfortunately, isn't always able to make a good choice.
