I found a tutorial which told me to install some more features like WTP, WST, JST and JPT.

What are these features?

Is there a long name for the abbreviation?

When I list all possible additional feature (in Help->Software Updates->Find and Install...)
for Eclipse Europa then I did not found such features.

What are their name in this context?

Are they listed there at all?

Jeff

Hi Jeff. I sympathize with you -- there are a lot of acronyms. If you
search on the eclipse.org website, you can come up with links for jst,
wst, and wtp that describe those projects. Under the Europa Discovery
Site / Web and JEE Development, you will see J2EE Standard Tools (JST)
and Web Standard Tools (WST). There is also a section called Web Tools
Platform (WTP). I think the JPT might refer to the Dali Java Persistence
API (JPA). The feature id for this is org.eclipse.jpt.feature.source,
which may explain the "JPT". I think that is available from its own
update site. Hope this helps. Mark

If you go to the Eclipse web site and click on the "Projects" link you'll
find plenty of information.

Eclipse is a highly modular and extensible framework. The acronyms you list
are projects that are extensions to the core Eclipse platform, and that add
functionality that is useful/needed for some tasks, mainly Enterprise Java
(J2EE) development. Other such extensions include CDT (the C/C++
development tools); EMF (Eclipse modeling framework); DTP (database tools);
and on and on.

If you didn't see those features listed in the update manager, check (with
Help -> About -> Configuration Details) to make sure that you're running on
a Java 1.5 or later JRE. I think some of those features may require a 1.5
JRE in order to load, and update manager may hide features that aren't
applicable to your environment. Or, maybe you installed an Eclipse package
that already included all those features. If you do Window -> Show
Perspective, do you see a "J2EE Perspective"? If so, you may already have
what you need.

Note - it looks like Jeff set the "followups" header to be eclipse.newcomer
only. (Why? How? Is there a defective newsreader out there?)

This post has been answered now; it's just that the answers didn't show up
in eclipse.platform.

Jeff,
Can you tell us how you posted this question (what application or web
site). As many details as possible, please.
The follow-up header is set poorly and we've seen that a few times the
past week or two, and its something that is not likely to be done
explicitly by a person.

Thanks,
Eric
