Hi,
I use BIRT to design reports against a very large database that has
approximately 25000 tables (i know, that's a lot, but it is proprietary
software out of my control). When I create a new data set, Eclipse runs
out of memory because (i think) it tries to load all the table
definitions to display in the "Available Items" pane. If I increase the
memory available to Java using the "-vmargs -Xmx" option, the Data Set
Designer opens, but only after about 5 minutes of waiting, and no table
names are available in the Items pane.
I tested this behavior in several BIRT versions, up to and including 2.2.
Is there a way to pre-filter the table names or disable the "Available
Items" pane? Waiting 5 minutes each time I want to create or edit a data
set is a bit frustrating.
Thanks,
Pedro Arinto

Pedro,
You can try this.
1. In eclipse with BIRT, Select Main menu Window->Preferences.
2. In preferences window, expand Report Design->Data Set Editor->JDBC Data
Set.
3. Specify maximum number of schemas and tables to display.

Lchen,
Problem solved.
I never noticed that preference before... I must look more carefully
next time.
Thanks a lot,
Pedro
