Have a look at the CVS perspective, you realise what I mean.
For example I did check out the following:

user:anonymous
password:***

host: cvs.codehaus.org
port: default
repository path: /scm/cvspublic
And the /scm/cvspublic is the path on that host.

/home/eclipse is the eclipse cvs repository path.

:pserver:anonymous@dev.eclipse.org:/home/eclipse

is the CVSROOT you need to use.
