How to find out what editor is opened? [message #247389]

Hi Everyone,

How can I find out what the currently opened editor is? For example when I
have opened an HTML page in an editor, given that I have multiple editors
which could open an HTML file, then how can I find out what that
particular editor that I have opened is?

Hi Orod. I think you want Window / Preferences / General / Editors /
File Associations. HTH. Mark

You might want to try right mouse clicking on the file, and select Open
With. That will give you a list of possible editors, the one that is
selected is the one that it will open with. If you need the file to
open with a different editor, you can select the editor from that list.
The next time you open that particular file, it'll open with your
last selection.

Mark's suggestion on the File Association is also good, as you can
select to make a particular editor the default editor based on the
extension.

Mark, and David,

Thanks for your replies. I do know about the default editor and how to
open a file using different editors. What I actually was looking for was
some easy way of knowing what the active editor is without having a prior
knowledge of what editor was used to open the file. For example, when you
look at a file that is opened with Ms Word, then you can see "Microsoft
Word" at the top and know what editor is being used without having prior
knowledge. I go from computer to computer and help people with their
problems, and I thought there might be an easy way of identifying the
editor that the person has open. I don't think the feature exists, but I
didn't want to miss the feature if it does exist.

Well, if the editor has it's own Icon, then that should give you a
visual clue, but not a verbal clue.
