How to change the default workspace settings [message #245724] Wed, 16 January 2008 13:12 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Hello

I look around but only found a thread with this topic:
Back in 2005 there was this thread with this question "Default
configuration possible?"
( http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.newcomer/msg00 569.html)
No solutions at that time and didn't find more recent thread.

So basicaly here is what I'd like:
when I create a new workspace I'd like it to have my default settings for
all the installed plugins and not the general default settings.
Ie: for Network settings I'd like when the workspace is created to have
automaticaly proxy enabled with the proxy adress and the port.

I know I can do it by import/export..but for a developer station
deployment it means that each time the developer create a workspace he
will have to import default settings. Since eclipse installation is just a
zip file I was wondering if the zip could contains the default settings.

So is this possible to with current eclipse version ? is there plan to
have this ?

regards

Lg

You can do some of this with "plugin_customization.ini". Unfortunately, which
settings you can change this way is poorly documented. I think it also means you
have to have a plugin to customize...

Thanks Derek

So basically what you are saying is that default settings that are dumped
the first time in .../myWorkspace/.metadata are hardcoded in Eclipse ?

The are not hardcoded - because you *can* change them with
"plugin_customization.ini".

It's just that the documentation of what the options are, is hard to find...

Ok, I misunderstood your first reply..

I'll make some tests with "plugin_customization.ini".
