The new look and feel has eveloved quite a lot between M8 and M9 and I
find it really great now. I also have the feeling that M9 is more
responsive.
An awesome milestone build!

Still hate the Fisher-Price L&F (though I'd agree that it isn't as
offensive as in M8).

The 2.1 L&F should be the default.

My personal preference is the new L&F with "old-style" tabs. I still think that
the 2.1 L&F is extremely Windows specific in it's appearance. Not a good thing
for a toolkit which purports to be cross platform.

The M9 ui has certainly stirred up debate ... and quite rightly, it's a
pretty major change.

There are certainly some EXCELLLLLLENT adavances withe new new L&F, but it
would seem that the UI team have pushed the bar a little too far. The
Sine-Wave tabs might be cool to develop but I know of few professional apps
on ANY of the platforms that have that look also!!

Whilst I'm all for Eclipse defining some new cross-platform paradigms
(perspectives for example) and implementing some incremental changes to both
it's own L&F as well as the hosting OS L&F, I also want Eclipse to truly be
cross-platform ... which means to me that it should fit into the L&F of the
host OS without comprimising the Eclipse functionality, not defining a new
L&F which is unique to Eclipse and hence platform neutral.

My company, along with others, is looking at developing RCP based apps and
we really want the L&F of our apps to match that of the Eclipse IDE.

There is another post in the group (M9 Look) where a contibutor comments
that the developers really like the new look - as if that's the end of it
..... not for us !

Our RCP apps for for non-developers who want apps that match the UI of the
OS they use .. not something that's uinique.

The R21 L&F fit our needs pretty well, and some of the M9 changes are
certainly worth it .. but not all.

Scott is right .. R21 L&F should be the default, with enhancements as
optional extras - over time users might migrate to the new L&F or v4.0 might
change things all over again - but defaulting to M9 is a really bad move.

That's why I use the "old-style" tabs with straight sides ;-)

I agree. As I think has been agreed in this news group before, probably the best
solution would have been to use real native tabs instead of the emulated "CTab"
solution.

This is where we differ ;-)

If we're going to have emulated UI elements at all then I much prefer the new
ones, they look closer to the native platform than the old 2.1 look anyway. The
drop shadow styling really stood out as odd looking, and the 2.1 style CTabs
were far from native looking anyway.

If you like some of the advances in the R3 presentation (new look) but don't
want to go all the way back to R21, see/cc/vote for/contribute to:

as far as i know if you are developing a RCP app
you can choose what you want! If you want native lnf all the way down
don't use CXXX components (CTab) but the normal Tab ect.
in RCP you have that choice.
