JBuilder transition to Eclipse/SWT? [message #238908] Wed, 05 May 2004 11:22 Go to next message

What are the substantial differences in terms of development using the
various Eclipse/SWT IDE's and any pro's/con's to a transistion from
JBuilder(were on v10) to Eclipse/SWT Swing development. Looking for
alternatives - Eclipse/SWT seems like one and will entertain any other
ideas. Yes we definitely want to be able to compete with native apps of the
same genre, that's why it's either a transition to Eclipse/SWT, etc or just
back to Windows development.

For example, what would be the alternative to JB's QDS(basically database
grid), which is probably the worst of the transition.

Thanks.

Are you talking about building your own branded applications atop of the
Eclipse/JBuilder platform? Or you mean to use it to develop with? I am not
sure exactly what you are saying...

To develop with, to migrate from a small to medium size Jbuilder Swing app,
to start over.

Since you're interested in

* tool issues

* tool-specific components

I'd suggest taking this to the Visual Editor group: that's the Eclipse
component (GUI builder) you'd be spending most time in (if you
migrated), and they're also well-versed in Swing (which they support
now) and SWT (for which they're adding support).
