Access newsgroup from web [message #238873] Fri, 26 October 2007 01:35 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Any thoughts as to how I can access this newgroup from a browser? Not all
computers I'm on have a mail client that I can sign up to every time, so
it'd be great if there were some kind of free web interface from which I can
post messages (and read other messages too).

There are free web interfaces to mailing lists, but I'm not sure of any for
newgroups...do you use web interfaces?

Thanks.

VK,

This bugzilla talks about it.

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=205453
<https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=205453>

For this newsgroup

http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/thread.php?group=eclipse.n ewcomer

I can see a "New message" link (but it's a little hard to notice)

http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/post.php?newsgroups=eclips e.newcomer&type=new
< http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/post.php?newsgroups=eclips e.newcomer&type=new>

This form doesn't allow you to post to multiple newsgroups at once
(which is usually bad so should usually be discouraged, but I'm not sure
it should be impossible).

Did you find that the help made it clear that you could access via the
web client?

http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Webmaster_FAQ#How_do_I_acc ess_the_Eclipse_newsgroups.3F

I'm curious what we could improve so that this question would have been
more obviously answered via whatever mechanism/path you used to find
this group in the first place?

http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/

Found by clicking Community from www.eclipse.org and then Newsgroups in
the left-hand navigation area.

Hope this helps,
Eric

My apologies, it is in fact quite simple to find.

I guess I was using my mail client for so long I didn't think to =
actually look on the website.=20

If I have any suggestion, it's not about finding the web interface link =
but rather allowing users to see a list of all their own messages =
(though of course you could search for your own username).

Thanks.
