You aren't the only one. I get this too, also on XP. My current (given)
answer is to deinstall all my JDK and to reinstall 1.4. (However there are
two at SUN and I'm not sure which one I should use.) Also, I see messages
about 1.5. If I'm going to go through all this trouble, why not wait and
do it once with 1.5?
If you'll forgive my soapbox, having decades of experience with virtually
every OS and hardware except the PC, which I've always regarded as a toy,
I can't tell you now that I'm entering development on PC with PC-tools, it
seems that the answer to any question is to reblast or reinstall or ...
These would never be acceptable answers in the day of MainFrame or Minis.
<sigh>
When I get to it, I plan to remove all JDK, and perhaps even Eclipse, then
install the latest JDK, then install again Eclipse.
