Library Refresh - changes not recognized [message #204096] Thu, 30 November 2006 10:56 Go to next message

I am using Birt Designer 2.1.1.v200609xx-xxxx.

I have a library with some data sources, themes/styles, and a chart. When I
change the chart in the library, I can not get the change to be recognized
report design that includes it.

* I tried right clicking on the library and choosing "refresh" in every
place that the lirary is visible.
* I tried deleting the chart and re-adding it.
* I tried restarting eclispe / closing all files, etc...
* I tried renming the chart in the lib
* I tried deleting and createing a new chart in the lib with a new name, but
still, only the original chart shows up in the lib exployer.

The only thing that I have found that works is removing the library from the
report and re-adding it. But now that my report relies on a datasource from
the lib, it won't let me do that unless I remove that dependancy first.

Is this a bug? Or am I missing something? Is there a work around? should I
am tempted to try the newest un-released version? (We use 2.0 for
production - I am trying libraries in a sandbox). Are library's better
supported in 2.2?

Also, where are the library elements cached? Can I manually clear it?

Update: I found out how to get the changes recognized. I choose "Add
Library" from the context menu of the library and chose to overwrite the
existing library. Then I was prompted that the library my report uses might
have changed an to re-open the report ot see the changes.

I would still like to know if the "refresh" command on the library's context
menu should have done this or does that have a different purpose. Is
re-adding the library a work around to the "refresh" not working? Or, is
this by design?

Thanks,
