| technical followup from RTSC Creation Review [message #175] | Thu, 08 May 2008 17:52 | |
| Eclipse User | | | | | During the RTSC Creation Review a number of good questions related to extending XDCtools were asked. Since we didn't have sufficient time to
discuss these questions in detail, we're planing an open real-time
 discussion of
 1. what extension points currently exist
 2. how best to to extend XDCtools, and
 3. what new extension points need to be added to support
 community development

If you have an interest in extending XDCtools, please join the live
 discussion on May 19.

We don't have any real-time training planned. In fact, we have been
working for the last several months on primers, white papers, and user's
guides with the idea that these documents would replace instructor-based
training sessions. The primers, in particular, contain the material
 we've used in past trainings.

While a live training allows for real-time questions and answers from
experts, we hope that this newsgroup and future mailing lists will
provide the same level of support in a more scalable and timely fashion.

Start with the module primer (available from
 http://wiki.eclipse.org/DSDP/RTSC) and ask questions here.

I expect that you'll eventually need to integrate your own code gen
tools to make it possible to build/debug/deploy your target content.
This requires creating a "target" which, in RTSC terminology, means that
you must create a package that contains a module that implements the
 xdc.bld.ITarget interface.

That last sentence is probably unintelligible until you read through the
module primer, but we have examples and user documentation in the works
that can guide you once you get to that point.

Good question. We presented a few high-level slides about what we
expect to do this year at EclipseCon this year
 ( https://eclipsecon.greenmeetingsystems.com/submissions/view/ 213), but a
 rough list includes:
 1. re-work the user-level documentation
 2. add basic tooling for real-time analysis and RTSC object
 viewing
 3. basic integration into Eclipse, especially CDT
 4. get XDCtools onto Eclipse.org
