Greetings;

I recently discovered the Eclipse platform after learning and now starting
to use Aptana for my website work. I downloaded the Eclipse package -
upon installation, the welcome screen appeared and I headed to the
tutorials to become acquainted with Eclipse. When the workbench opened, I
got error messages regarding the Resource Perspective.

I thought I may have had a corrupt download, so I downloaded the package
again, this time from one of the resources that bundles things together -
Yoxos. This install was worse, the welcome screen could not load and
listed out several error messages.

I am running an older machine - Pentium III 600hz with 512 memory

Eclipse distribution is the current release 3.2.2
I started out with JRE 1.4.2. After the first failed install, I bumped up
to the Java SDK install.

Is there a minimum spec for the machine? After the first install failure,
I could not find any way to uninstall Eclipse, I just deleted the folder
and its contents. Is there a proper way to uninstall Eclipse so a "fresh"
version can be installed? Should I have uninstalled the JRE before
installed tha Java SDK?

Thanks

It sounds like there may be a problem with the JVM(s) on your machine.
Find the file .metadata/.log in your workspace and see if there are any
further details there. Look first at the JVM version that Eclipse is
using - it may not necessarily be what you had "installed."

Uninstalling Eclipse is just a matter of deleting its installation
directory - there is nothing else to do.

In the future, the exact error messages will help track down problems.
For now, you should get a lot of details from the .log file - post the
interesting parts and see if that gets you somewhere.

Hope this helps,
Eric
