I am attempting to install and run eclipse from a Windows 2003 Terminal
server. By default, and I would like to keep it that way, the installation
 directories are read only client

Elicpse will not start from a terminal client because of file locking
problems on the configuration files, in particular the .mananger directory
and files. The log file has the following line :

 -- log file extract --
 Root exception:
 java.io.FileNotFoundException:
 c:\ITC307\eclipse\configuration\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.ma nager\.fileTableLock
 (Access is denied)
-- end of log file extract --

I have tried the command line arguement below as suggested by some other
 posts without success.

 eclipse -Dosgi.locking=none

Does anybody have any suggestions ...
