Where is the documentation [message #197041] Mon, 23 October 2006 10:35 Go to next message

Hi, I'm new to using birt.

We have plans to integrate birt into a custom web application, after
much fuss I got the servlet integrated into an example application in a
way that meshes with our continuous build process and dependency management.

I have a few questions about the framework in general. Aside from the
flash tutorials, where is the general documentation? I'm looking for
something along the lines of explaining the overall interactions of the
main components, ie: how do the modelapi, coreapi, dte-api
(data-engine?), report-engine-api, and other api's interact? What are
the main responsibilities and features of each? I have a few other
specific questions which I'll post as separate threads.

Thanks,

-t.

He's right those sites are the best online sources of documentation.

One side note: we just heard from Amazon that the book's release date
has been pushed to February. So, all of those plans to give the BIRT book
as Christmas Stocking Stuffers will have to be put on hold.

Regards,
Ty

Ty,

The Amazon date isn't correct and will be updated soon. Both books
should be available before December, so you can use them for stocking
stuffers! ;-)

The help31 link has documentation for BIRT 2.0, which is now out of date.
You should use the help that installs with BIRT. The BIRT Report Developer
Guide section explains how to use the Report Designer UI. The reference
materials are now split into separate sections, BIRT Programmer Reference
and BIRT Charting Programmer Reference.
