Library Themes vs. Design Styles [message #194968] Thu, 12 October 2006 09:32 Go to next message

Hi,

I created a library with my own theme and added some styles to this theme.
Then I wanted to use the theme for a report design and wondered why there is
only a Styles folder (Outline view). Nevertheless I tried to drag&drop the
theme folder from the library to the report design and it worked. I even can
use the styles from the theme, but I can't remove the theme folder anymore
because it has no context menu. Is there some inconsistency in the Outline
view or did I make a mistake?

Regards,

Christian

The goal is to defined in a library a set of styles.
If these styles can change, you just have to copy paste your theme to defined the new look and feel of your theme.

Then, in your report you use a style extracted for one theme.
In you look in the outline, on the root of your report, the properties editor shows, in general item
a Themes combobox that list the available theme in the libraries.

If you defined a new theme in your library, to apply it you just have to change the theme on the report.

Hope this helps ;)

Hi,

thanks for the explanation.

Unfortunatelly I still have some problems with the designer gui. I defined 2
themes (both have the same styles with different settings) in a library and
published the library to a different project. I created a new report design
in this project and looked at the Themes combobox you mentioned, but there
is no entry.

How must I use the library to make the themes appear in the Themes combobox
of the report design? The only possibility I found was to drag&drop the
themes from the library explorer to the outline view, but I think the themes
aren't supposed to be used this way.

Thanks,

Christian Eckert

I think I finally understand it,

by using drag&drop to add the theme to the report design the library is
automatically added to the "used" librarys. And of course the library can be
removed here and if I only want to remove the theme, I must do this by
setting the Theme Combobox to "None".

Thanks again Thibaud.

Hm, I can't find a "Use library" in the library explorer, although I
expected it to be there. Instead I can find the entries "Refresh", "Add
library" and "Delete" in the context menu. With "Add library" I can add a
library to the ressource folder, but this doesn't add the library to the
"used librarys" in the outline view. To add it there, I must select "Use
library" from the outline view's context menu.

Christian

Which build are you using?
In BIRT 2.1.1, the library explorer does have the right click menu option
"Use Library"

Ok, you are right, the right click menu actually contains the option "use
library".
But if a library is already used, the entry is not visible, that's why I
didn't see it, sorry.
