long delay on startup (5/10 min) [message #193224] Thu, 12 February 2004 08:08 Go to next message

Hi all!

I'm experiencing a tremendous delay on every startup of Eclipse.

Working under a debian Linux system with a 3GHz intel idle during
all this startup delay, I can't figure it out why.

Depending on the exact version, I get like little over 10 minutes
delay with 2.1 or 2.1.2 release versions vs. 5 minutes with 3.0-M6.

After this delay the app works "quite normal".

All I did was local user install (no access rights probs) and
execution of like "$> ./eclipse" in the appropriate dir.

Anybody have an explanation for this and how to get around delay ?

Sascha

Did you try a profiler? Did you file a bug report?

I agree with Daniel Megert: File a bug.

Do other applications start-up slowly? KDE, for example....

Doug.

OK, will do so first after getting back to my working place.

Wanted to hear from community first as I've seen nothing like this
in Google or in bug database search. Still believe it has sth to do
with personal settings or the like :o/

Nothing unusual so far, should try some heavy GTK app though ..

Thanks for advice,
Sascha
