How to change "Location" for "User Settings" [message #1188634] Fri, 15 November 2013 13:49 Go to next message

I noticed that EGit has some odd defaults in my configuration. It set my "Default Repository Folder" and the "Location" in "User Settings" to a folder on a remote network drive. I was able to change the "Default Repository Folder" to something more reasonable, but the "Location" field in "User Settings" is not editable. Why is this not editable in EGit, and how do I change it?

You can indirectly change the location. But you have to create a new environment variable HOME in your environment variables/user variables settings. I'm pretty sure that any git for windows installation (msys), if provided, will read that location too.

First of all, it makes absolutely no sense that EGit would choose to think that network folder is my default "HOME" directory. There is nothing in my environment variables that even references that location. In any case, it would be extremely inconvenient to set "HOME" to change this, as Cygwin already uses that.

EGit implements some fallback strategies if the HOME variable is not set. The path estimation is explained here http://wiki.eclipse.org/EGit/User_Guide#Setting_up_the_Home_Directory_on_Windows. The rules look quite similar to the ones git for windows uses.
