eclipseCON after the BoF [message #17556] Sat, 07 February 2004 17:32 Go to next message

At the BoF, Christophe Ney of INRIA/ObjectWeb announced that ObjectWeb
would propose to lead this project. The following morning, Christophe,
Naci Dai (eteration/ObjectWeb/Lomboz), and I met with the eclipse
Chairperson, Skip McGauhey, who explained to us the new process put in
place by eclipse Foundation.

Later that morning in the closing eclipseCON session, there was a Q & A
session based on questions attendees had submitted during the
conference. I submitted a question about the status of the Web Tools
Platform Project. Skip gave the response and stated that he was
"embarrassed" by the way this project had been handled.

A few years ago I had the privilege of working with Skip (on VisualAge
for Java). He is a straight-talker and the kind of guy you're glad is on
your side. Skip will ensure that whatever organization becomes the
leader of this project is fully committed to its success and has the
resources to make it happen. Christophe now has his work cut out for him
in putting together the ObjectWeb proposal.

Arthur and Christophe already know this, but SAS is also considering a
proposal to lead the project. Alternatively, we can work with ObjectWeb or
another group on some kind of joint proposal.

Christophe: if you would, please send me a note in email so we can discuss
it.
Thanks,

Ed,

If SAS and ObjectWeb can join forces, I think that would strengthen the
proposal. Skip is expecting any proposal to follow the new eclipse
Foundation process outlined in
http://eclipse.org/org/documents/Eclipse%20Development%20Pro cess%202003_11_09%20FINAL.pdf
so I think we all need to get familiar with it.
