word completion display mode [message #172526] Tue, 26 September 2006 03:33 Go to next message

Hi, I'm a pretty new Eclipse IDE user.

I have a question.

It is possible to change the mode word completion show proposals. Now
these values are displayed in sequence, and if there is a pretty large
number of them it is difficult to pick the desired proposal.
There is a configuration setting to display these proposals into a popup
just like content assist does, and if it's only one proposal it must be
inserted direct into editor. I know that I can find the word completion
proposals in content assist popup, but these are amongst others proposals.

Thx in advance, jtonic.

Using R3.2 or newer, take a look at Window > Preferences > Java >
Content Assist > Advanced.

Thx for your help.

I've tried it before but it seems not work corectly. I've selected
1. Other Java Proposals and Type Proposals - for default proposals;
2. Word Proposals and Template Proposals - for next cycling proposals

but when I invoke CYCLICALLY next proposals (CTRL-SPACE) only default
proposals and template proposals are displayed, and the folowing messages
are displayed on the bottom-right corner of proposals popup:
- Press 'CTRL-SPACE' to show template proposals;
- Press 'CTRL-SPACE' to show default proposals;

I don't manage to deal with it. I realy want don't mess word completion
proposals with other proposals, and I realy don't want to press more than
2 times CTRL-SPACE for that.

Now I have Template Proposals for the second invoke of CTRL-SPACE and the
rest of proposals for the first one.
Word completion seemed to be a good choice for me but the way it display
the proposals it's realy annoing for a pretty large number of word
proposals.

Thx again, jtonic.

It works for me. Keep in mind that word proposals only work in Javadoc,
single-line or traditional comment sections and not when writing pure code.
