Upgrade Problem [message #159506] Tue, 04 July 2006 04:27 Go to next message

Hi all,

I am using Eclipse 3.0.1 for a very long time now, and I just wanted to
upgrade to the new 3.2.0 version. Unfortunately, when I "Search for
updates" in Eclipse, the only possible Eclipse SDK update I get, is 3.0.2!
Is there a possibilty (aside from a complete fresh installation) that I
upgrade from 3.0.1 directly to 3.2.0 - or do I have to upgrade step by
step (from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2, then somewhen to 3.1.0 and afterwards to
3.2.0)?!

Thanks for your infos!

Regards
Bernhard Böhm

No. The major version changes are not covered by the update manager.
You will need to do a fresh install. This is reasonable, as the
workspace lay-out is not backwards compatible. I.e. it is recommended
to copy your workspace, install the new Eclipse *next to* the old one,
point it to the copy of the workspace, and only delete it if, after some
time, you are sure everything works fine.

Thanks Hendrik for the answer!

One major question still for me is, if all preferences set (mainly the
CVS-properties) are also usable in the upgraded version, without any
problems?! Because nearly all our projects are stored in the CVS
repository...

Yes. But you’ll also have to reinstall all plugins and features you are
using. This can be easily done by first exporting the update sites,
then importing them in the new version and find updates.

CVS is built-in, so no probs there.
