I have a question. I have been using eclipse for about three months now. I
have not installed any plugins at this point. I have seen some behavior
that is a little strange. Seems that about every 10-15 minutes, it hangs
for about 20 seconds doing something then it comes back without any error.
It seems to happen when I have left it for a few minutes, sometimes it does
it, sometimes it does not. It has done it a few times when I was actively
working in it, but not very often. Is there some kind of JVM setting I need
to change? Environment Variable? Other? here is my setup

Windows XP SP2 (firewall turned off)
Eclipse version 3.0.1 Build id 200409161125
Celeron CPU 1.2 Ghz
512 mb of ram

My project is a J2EE utilizing Struts & Hibernate frame works. With no
plugin's added as of yet.

Any suggestions?

This might be the underlying VM doing a global GC?
You may try and give the VM more memory:
