Hi,
I just started using eclipse. I am having some difficulties in creating
a java project. Please help.
Here is my problem. I am using eclipse 3.0. I want to create a java
project, but the source files and the output files should be in a file
system outside the project's resource hierarchy. I thought I should
create the source folder as a "Linked resource". I did that by creating
a new folder under the root resource. I did that from the projects
properties dialog, "Java Build Path", "Source" tab, I clicked on "Add
Folder" -> "Create New Folder". I specified the folder name and in the
advanced tab, I checked "Link to folder in file system" and specified
the actual path to where the source reside. Now in the "Package
Explorere" view, I see the various java packages. If I double click on
any of the java sources in the package, I get an error
"Cannot open default editor on <filename>. Editor could not be initialized.
But if I open the file using "open with" -> "text editor", I am able to
open the file. But I don't see any syntax highlighting etc. So my
questions are:
1. How can I create a java project where the source files and the class
files reside in a file system outside the project's resource hierarchy.
2. If "Linked resources" are the way the to do this, why am I not able
to open any files using Java editor.
Thanks
Anand

Everything you did is correct. I assume you are using 3.0 M4. This is a
known problem which has been fixed in the current stream.
