Like many people, I have tabs set to 4 spaces. However, with other
programs, I've been able to set hard tabs at 8 spaces (for example, in
jEdit I can set an indent width at 4 spaces and a tab width at 8
spaces). The result of this is that every other indent is replaced by a
hard tab, which is nice.
So far, I've only discovered two different options concerning indenting
in eclipse: (1) having indents at 4 spaces, without any hard tabs; or
(2) having indents displayed as hard tabs when opened in other editors.
I also can't seem to find a real difference in "Insert tabs for
indentation, not spaces" under Preferences>Java>Code Formatter>Style and
"Insert space for tabs" under Preferences>Java>Editor>Typing.
Thanks for your assistance,
Liam Morley
