Newbie Question: Cant find .classpath files [message #148512] Thu, 23 October 2003 11:29 Go to next message

I'm new to eclipse, have just downloaded the 2.1.1 SDK, expanded it and
run eclipse.exe. I'm trying to build the helloworld example given in the
online help guide, and have imported the org.eclipse.ui plugins, plus
dependencies.

However, eclipse complains that it cant find these .classpath files for
various of the standard plugins that have been imported, e.g.

------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------
Kind Description Resource
Location
Error Unable to read 'org.eclipse.ui/.classpath' file. org.eclipse.ui
Build path
------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------

This error message occurs for about a dozen other standard plugins as well.

As I look through the plug in directories that come with eclipse, there
are no such .classpath files anywhere.

I'm sure this is some simple config flag that needs to get flipped
somewhere but I'm lost.

Can someone help me?

Thanks,

Scott McFaddin

Tom,

Thanks -- I tried the navigator -- there are no .classpath files seen in
the views.

For example, expanding org.eclipse.ui gives

- bin
.. no subdirectories here ..
- icons
.. subdirectories ..
- .options
- .project
- about.html
- plugin.properties
- plugin.xml
- ui.jar
- uisrc.zip

Could it be that the install hasnt set up these files.. Is there a way to
tell eclipse to generate these?

Thanks,

Scott

When you imported them, did you use Import External Plugins and
Fragments, or did you use Import File system? You should of used Import
External Plugins and Fragments.

BTW, For those reading this,

Rich Kulp and I investigated this, and it turns out the problem is that
Eclipse 2.1.1 (which I am running) does not work with the 1.4 JRE -- you
need the 1.3 one!

Many many thanks to Rich for locating this problem!!
