[ANN] SWT Designer FormLayout Preview Pics [message #147735]

Eclipse User

We are close to releasing an update to SWT Designer that contains very nice
support for FormLayout. Before releasing the update, we wanted to get
feedback and suggestions from the group. The most exciting aspect of the
FormLayout capability is the support for dynamic snap points at the window
margins, at the edges of possible target widgets, and to user-defined
percentage points within the window.

You can access the "FormLayout Preview" pics from the SWT Designer home
page, http://www.swt-designer.com, or directly from
here...http://www.instantiations.com/swt-designer/shots/form layout.html. We
hope to get a flash demo in place soon that will show this off.

Note that the new FormLayout capability will only be available in the
professional version of the product. The pro version is currently available
to any member of this newsgroup at a 25% discount ($149) through the end of
October. To take advantage of this offer, click on the "Buy It Now" button

As an existing owner of Designer, my only comment is when can I download
the update ? :-)

Hopefully, soon. The new FormLayout support represents an enormous amount of
engineering work, so we want to make sure to get it just right. How did the
pics look? Any suggestion, comments or requirements for the FormLayout
support?

It looks great; but it is hard to give much more in the way of comments
without actually getting my mitts on it.

Take your time and get it right, from what I have seen so far your first
crack at it should be pretty good.

I was not aware of this plugin, look very interesting. But webpage layout is
not what I've used to. A lot of inplace scrollable frames makes it hard to
read. Especially left-bottom "News" frame is very very hard to read as I can
only see 5 lines and then must scroll the inplace frame. I hope other
websites don't follow such layout schema.

The website was set up to emulate the Eclipse look and feel. Lots of folks
tell us they like it, but I agree that the News frame is too small. I will
try and fix that.

Caption emulating Eclipse indeed looks good, but inplace frames sux I you
ask me. Its very hard to scroll up and down reading the long pages.

I suggest you still keep "Eclipse caption bar" bitmap, but get rid of the
inframes. Make a regular page and just use html-table to seperate column
textregions. Then its easy to scroll page even in low resolution comps.
