| moving from Eclipse 3.0 to 3.1 + wtp [message #139234] | Fri, 16 September 2005 14:03 | |

I have a number of web applications that I could run in an external tomcat
5.0 install and I could debug them in Eclipse 3.0 by setting break points
in the java editor and then starting tomcat and exercising the web
application. I use Exadel for my Struts applications but I have some non
struts applications that I could debug equally well.

So now I am migrating to 3.1 for the wtp because I have several other
requirements like web services and hibernate that I thought would be
 easier in 3.1 + wtp.

But now I can't find out to setup my existing Tomcat 5.0 with its /manager
and /admin and some jars in /shared/lib/ and a LDAP/JNDI realm and JAAS
all setup and running fine in that existing Tomcat.

Can I not run and debug against the existing Tomcat 5.0 from Eclipse 3.1?
I tried modifying the wtp server/server.xml with no luck, but I must admit
I didn't put much effort into that, not wanting to waste too much time.

I can see the advantage of being able to setup a number of containers and
test small pieces against each one separately and easily...that's a plus,
but I have a number of highly cohesive but loosely coupled web
applications that need to operate side by side within the tomcat instance
and don't see any way to do it (at least not yet).

 Assistance greatly appreciated.
